Domestic Violence And Abuse.
Some things are swept under the mat like leftover dust, where they should be brought to the open and dealt with. Domestic violence is such a thing as this.
You can walk through a primary school in the morning and hear the parents whispering.
"I hear he beats his children,"
"You can always hear her yelling at them, there's always banging from their property too,"
"Those children, so unruly. Though he is incredibly tough on them.."
"Everyone knows he hits her, but it doesn't matter- it's normal,"
So many rumours, some just joked about, yet no reports of violence around the city.
It is not just a regular occurance- this is a problem, a crime. And it can be both physically and emotionally traumatising for children and parents.
It is equally as possible to hear rumours just as similar around a local secondary school or circling around the community. But nothing ever gets done.
Persons being abused like this are often misunderstood and more than often hide it from everyone they can. Whether by acting out themselves (bullying, becoming nonconformists, unusually agressive behaviour), or by shying away from others (and becoming introverts)- these people are usually only trying to hide their inner pain and thoughts. With this abuse can come a strong sense of shame and also mistrust.
It is unhelpful to try and push the vitims too hard for information, as then they are less likely to talk. It is important they are not kept silent and do not lose their voice.
SPEAK OUT. It is important.
Talking to children around my area (the central coast, NSW, Australia) many think it NORMAL for these incidents to happen.
"Daddy used to throw me across the room. Mummy always yells. But I think all adult's do that don't they?"
Remarks such as this are common once you gain a child's trust.
It is important not to break or exploit this trust, but if the child's personal safety (or the safety of others) is questionable or at stake- it is VERY important you report it.
Don't be like the others.
Don't suffer in silence.
And don't let anyone do the same.
Domestic (physical or emotional) Violence is ABUSE.
and Abuse is a CRIME.

(As Mick is leaving)
Mick: I would recommend not going into the office.
Beth: Okay
Mick: Okay Or upstairs. Or through the grey door
Beth: Wow, this all sounds so Alice in Wonderland!
Mick: Beware of the bottles that say drink me, okay?
